THE FA VASE 1ST ROUND GRIMSBY BOROUGH 1

QUORN AFC 0 QUORN faced Lincolnshire side Grimsby Borough who play in The Northern Counties East Premier Division on Saturday for a place in the second round of The FA Vase.

The first half both sides did seem nervous and couldn’t quite get into full swing, as lots of misplaced passes prevented any team really getting a foothold in the match.

However in the 33rd minute, attacking midfielder Tawanda Mangondoza got the best of his defender and was through on-goal

. A late tackle resulted into a Quorn penalty and Stephen Hart stepped up to take the spot kick but keeper Liam Higton quite comfortably saved the ball to the left hand side of Grimsby goal and the chance went begging.

In the 44th minute, a free-kick in the Grimsby half was taken quickly and defender Jurelle Phillips got a touch to the ball but it placed the ball in the path of a Grimsby’s Adam Drury who shot past Quorn keeper Max Culverwell to give the hosts the lead.

After the restart – Quorn did start the brighter of the two teams and a higher tempo of football was being played by The Foxhunters.

Quorn thought they’d levelled on 57 minnutes when a swinging ball from Brandon Fox into the Grimsby Borough Area found captain Leavi Oshungbure who hit a great volley towards goal but keeper Higton pulled off a incredible stretched save to deny the goal.

Despite having more of the ball and a few half chances Quorn couldn’t find the net and time ran out and the final whistle went on 90 minutes and Quorn exited the FA Vase.
