‘We would love the whole community to unite behind this event’

-

Residents of Shepshed are being encouraged to get the tinsel and baubles out and take part in a Covid-19 compliant alternative to the Christmas Tree Festival.

The Rotary Club of Shepshed is organising the event. It is open to all households, schools, nurseries and other groups who want to showcase their festive spirit.

Participants will display an imaginatively themed Christmas tree at their location, for passersby to enjoy and vote for their favourite.

Members of the public can buy a tree trail programme and map, which includes voting instructions.

The programmes will be available from Numark Pharmacy in Field Street, Shepshed, and Dilip’s Multi Store, in Market Place, Shepshed, from late November, for £3 each.

All funds raised will be distributed by the Rotary Club of Shepshed charity to support local and international good causes.

Liz Marshall, president of the rotary club, said: “We would love the whole community to unite behind this event, light up Shepshed and dismiss the Covid-19 blues with some real festive spirit.

The Christmas trees will be displayed on December 5 and 6 from 10am to 4pm.

Entry forms are available by emailing shepshedrotary@gmail.com or calling rotarian Phil Marriott on 07585 127962.

The closing date for applications is November 20.
