Dynamo chairman believes league should stop now

- By KIERAN KING

LOUGHBOROUGH Dynamo chairman Darren Rodgers is hoping that football can return as soon as possible but believes safety is the most important thing at the moment.

Dynamo have been out of competitive action since the end of October when they bowed out of the FA Trophy, which put an end to their terrific eightmatch unbeaten.

The 50-year-old is excited to see The Moes back in action when they are able to do so and admitted that he’s missed it whilst the country has been in lockdown.

He said: “Football being stopped is the right thing to do. But after going on a great run and sitting joint-top of the league. It’s sad and I’ve missed it a lot but we can’t do much about it.

“I’ve missed it a lot more than I thought I would, the social aspect and what happens on a match-day. It’s been really gutting and just to be with them people at a game again would be amazing.

“Mental health is going to suffer terribly because of it and I think we’ve all suffered due to this current situation. The problem is, is that the health is the priority and that comes first. But I’m really looking forward to when we can return to playing when it’s safe.”

Despite the trophy defeat, Dynamo have begun the 2020-21 season in fine form, winning eight of their 12 competitive matches and currently sit in second place in the league.

After the most recent Northern Premier League press release which stated the high likelihood of null and void for the second successive campaign, Rodgers says that he wants the decision to be made carefully.

He added: “I think the season should finish now due to safety of everyone involved but I believe the decision should be taken carefully. When we restart the season it should be a continuation of the 2020-21 campaign when we’re able to do so.

“That means that there will be a conclusion to who gets promoted and relegated, rather than a complete null and void. Whether that’s in the summer or not then who knows but we’re always missing football at our level.”
