Firms given warnings for breaches of rules in lockdown

-

COMPANIES have been reminded of their legal obligations after four firms were found to be breaching lockdown regulations.

The firms in Charnwood were open despite being classed as non-essential and were issued with notices ordering them to close or face fixed-penalty notices or further legal action.

Officers have also sent warning letters to a further 12 businesses, requiring them to close or to remind them that staff must wear face coverings.

Councillor Shona Rattray, lead member for regulatory services at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “We want to support businesses as much as we can.

“But we also have a duty to enforce the lockdown rules, which are in place to protect people’s health and the NHS, which is under tremendous pressure. We appreciate how tough it is for businesses at the moment, but it is vital all businesses follow the lockdown rules.

“There is financial support available for businesses forced to close and details can be found on our website.”

The notices and the warning letters have been issued since the start of the first lockdown in March.

The council said it has decided not to name the four companies. The authority has also issued further guidance to businesses: Mobile phone shops and shoe repair shops are permitted to remain open for repairs only. People are permitted to enter the shops to drop off goods for repair only and should not stay within the premises waiting.

All showrooms open to both the trade and public must close.

Dog groomers are permitted to remain open for welfare and medical reasons, such as matted coats and skin conditions.

However, grooming for aesthetic reasons should be delayed. Builders merchants are permitted to stay open, as are shops supplying products and tools used in building work and repairs.

Close contact services are permitted for medical reasons only.
