CRICKET. Although there is no certainty in regard to the 2021 cricket season opening for amateur cricket clubs in the UK, Sutton Bonington’s village side have been told by their league officials who they will be playing if the season gets underway.

The club are members of the South Notts Gunn and Moore cricket league in Nottinghamshire in which over 130 teams take part.

The club – as all of them in the competition – have been given a reminder on the process of registering players for the 2021 season, with a statement from the league saying all new player registrations will be accepted as long as they conform to the minimum requirements which includes full address and place of birth.

The league say if the player was born in a country outside the UK then clubs need to add passport/visa status and if they are not a British passport holder then please state the date of entry to the UK. The date must be more than 24 months ago.

Category 1 players – regular club players – who are not UK born or UK passport holders, will need to have been resident in the UK for more than 24 months to be accepted. If they have been resident for more than 18 months but less than 24, then they can be registered as a Specially Registered Player.

If they are a student or at school then they can be registered as Specially Registered having been here for less than 18 months.

All Specially Registered Players must be approved by David Richards, the League Secretary before we will accept on play-cricket.

All overseas and professional players for Division A must be approved by David Richards before we accept on play-cricket.

For transfers between clubs during the off-season, the league say it will leave the transfer pending for two weeks before accepting the registration.

The player’s original club will have the opportunity to object to the transfer during those two weeks, but only on the grounds of being owed money or disciplinary reasons. ”You can’t object because you are unhappy,” say the league.

Once a player has played a game for a club then transfers will only accepted when the original club accepts the transfer. This is for the new club and/or player to arrange and not for the league to sort for you.

In the coming season Sutton Bonington will meet Belvoir CC – 3rd XI, Beeston and Toton CC, Burton Joyce CC, Bengal United CC – 1st XI, Bramcote CC – 2nd XI, East Bridgford 2nd XI, Gotham Village CC – 2nd XI, Great Dalby CC and Kimberley Institute 4th XI in their league games.

CHURCH ASSISTANCE. Kind-hearted parishioners in Sutton Bonington have donated more than £1,000 to the funds of St Michael’s and St Anne’s parish churches to give them assistance in helping to meet some of the shortfall they have because of the coronavirus pandemic situation.

Churchwarden Beth Clarke has given a thank you to all those who have donated funds to make up some of the financial shortfall due to the lack of fundraising events, which have not possible to be held because of the virus regulations.

The total reached towards the end of December was £1,375, most of which is entitled to Gift Aid, which will raise the figure.

Says Beth: “This is a tremendous result and the parochial church council is most grateful.”

If there is anyone else who would still like to contribute please deliver your donation to Beth at: 16 Gables Lea in an envelope clearly marked St Michael’s and St Anne’s Fund Raising. Cheques should be made out to St Michael’s with St Anne’s PCC.

WATER AID. A generous individual donation of £40 has taken the total grant being made to Water Aid from the Harvest retiring collection at Sutton Bonington to £116. The charity has given its thanks to the church for the gift, saying they are very grateful for it.

The Water Aid charity has teams in 28 countries across the world, working with their partners to transform millions of lives every year by improving access to clean water, toilets and hygiene.

Since 1981, they have reached more than 27 million people with clean water. And their plans show they are to continue their important work.

In the last 39 years, they have gone from strength to strength to become one of the most respected organisations dealing solely with water, sanitation and hygiene issues.

While installing taps and toilets is essential to their work, it doesn’t stop there and they do so much more.

They convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

Regular gifts by direct debit give them a predictable income so they can commit to helping more people. Plus direct debits mean they pay less in processing fees than for credit card gifts.

Say the charity: “We’ll use your donations in the best way possible. In every £1 we spent, 76p went on delivering services and making change happen and 24p went on fundraising and governance.

CHURCH. Sutton Bonington St Michael’s Church didn’t have a Christmas market in 2020 because of the Covid-19 situation, but there was a small income for their funds from items meant to have been sold.

Some items that would have found themselves being sold were still disposed of, having been available to be seen at St Michael’s and which included toffee, cushions and festive lace masks, brought in over £120 at the first count. The final figure may be more than that.

CHURCHES TOGETHER. The Churches Together group in Sutton Bonington are looking at the possibility of a Lent Group commencing on Shrove Tuesday, February 16.

They are hoping to have some sort of weekly Churches Together online Group starting Tuesday, February 16 at 2pm.
