A LUXURY dog grooming salon in Barkby Thorpe has been shortlisted for a national animal award.

The Dog House Canine Spa, run by Selina West and Anna Pollard, is among the finalists for the Pet Groomer of the Year category in the Animal Star Awards.

Ms West said: “We’re honoured to be listed as finalists, there are some really inspirational businesses across all the categories in the Animal Star Awards and it’s lovely to see our salon up there with them.

“The Dog House has been a true labour of love and we’re proud to still be here after such a turbulent year.”

During the pandemic, the duo have rallied to provide their clients with all the help and support they need to maintain their dog grooming at home.

Ms Pollard said: “We created a free ebook and brushing guides, we did a suite of videos to help our clients as well as one-to-one phone calls.

“They all did an amazing job of maintaining their dogs coats.”

The salon also ran quizzes and an online dog show after their Daft About Dogs Day was cancelled.

The event raised more than £200 for a local pet rescue.

Founded in 2016, the Animal Star Awards exists to recognise animals and people for the extraordinary things that they do for one another, from dog trainers to groomers to rescue centres and campaigners.

The awards raise awareness for small animal charities and gives them support. The winners will be announced on March 28 via a virtual awards ceremony.
