The first thing I’m going to do when lockdown is lifted...

READERS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE PUB, GYM AND MEETING FAMILY ONCE THEY ARE ALLOWED

MANY people across Leicestershire are desperate to return to some sort of normality, and with Boris Johnson’s plan to ease us out of lockdown revealed on Monday, they have been thinking about what they would like to do first.

Parts of Leicester and Leicestershire have been in some sort of lockdown for nearly a year now, with lots of families not able to meet up for months.

With the Prime Minister setting out the roadmap to end England’s lockdown this week, we asked readers on Facebook page what would be the first thing they would like to do when lockdown is eventually lifted.

Many were looking forward to again doing the everyday things we once took for granted, such as going to the gym or a trip to the pub.

Some said they just wanted to visit family and friends, while others, who have had hospital appointments delayed, are eager to get on with their treatment.

Mandy Fahey is among those who are desperate for medical care.

When asked what she would do when the restrictions end, she said: “Get all the hospital treatment I need as I’ve been left in pain because of Covid. (There’s) no concern for people left without their regular treatments when living in pain, so I just want all my hospital appointments back on track.”

Like Mandy, Quymie Greaves wants to get her medical appointments rearranged.

She said: “I’ll attend the pain clinic and get the operation I’ve been waiting over a year for, without which I have been left using a wheelchair.”

Unlike many, Correen Lofthouse Hayes said she will not be rushing out. She said: “I’ll stay in my house for a bit longer.

“I’ll wait until the rate of the virus is down to a comfortable enough level for me.”

Like Correen, Emma Hall said: “Just because the government lifts restrictions doesn’t mean it’s safe. Have we not learnt our lessons from the last two (lockdowns)? I’ll not be rushing out anywhere too soon.”

Stacey Butlin, though, is missing going out. She said she was looking forward to a “meal and drink out and then gym”.

Echoing the thoughts of many of us, she added: “I miss having a normal life which involves more than boredom and work.” Another theme was people missing their holidays. Paul Pegrum said: “The first thing I would like to do with no restrictions is a good few days away, the Scottish islands or Cornwall. “And enjoy the amenities, pubs, and, above all, I’m looking forward to seeing no masks!” James Scott-Howes is missing live music. “Gigs! I’ll go to as many freaking gigs as possible.

“I don’t care who it is at this point, I just want to hear music through a PA being played by humans,” he wrote.

Not surprisingly, most of you are missing family.

Jo Harvey said: “I want to see family, get a haircut and go to the pub for a meal.”

Hannah Adams said: “Have family over for a big bbq or meal!

“We’ve got a lot of birthdays and celebrations to catch up on.”

Andrea Fisher said: “I want to see my mum and brother in York”, while Amanda Swingler said: “I’ll go and see my parents who I haven’t seen since December 2019.

“Then catch up with other family and friends. Then some lovely days out.”

Joanne Cort said she wanted to “pop some furniture down to my mum who has been waiting for it since she moved into her new flat”.

And Tracey Smith summed up the situation for people everywhere when she said: “Have a meal with family to celebrate the big birthdays we have missed in lockdown.”

I’ll enjoy the amenities, pubs, and, above all, I’m looking forward to seeing no masks!
