Zero waste shop opens

-

A zero waste and refill shop has launched in Loughborough.

The Cleaning Cabinet, in Baxter Gate, is run by Tunde and Ati Sobola. Tunde said: “The Cleaning Cabinet is all about providing affordable sustainability.

“This core value means we only aim to sell essential items that people need. We do our best to stay clear of frivolities as they ultimately contribute to a lot of waste.

“Generally, we aim to sell everyday essential products that encourage customers to go plastic-free and reduce their waste.

“We hope to continue to develop our product range until we have a sustainable grocery product range where customers can rely on us as a one-stop-shop for all their everyday essential needs.”

The Cleaning Cabinet started out as an online shop in 2019 following on from their cleaning company, Green Heart Clean.

“We want to make sure businesses receive the best cleaning service without damaging the environment,” Tunde said.

“We have always used nontoxic cleaning solutions but it was in 2019 we realised a lot of people need to learn more about what it means to clean sustainably.”

A Saturday stall at Loughborough market followed the website, with the shop quickly moving to a kiosk in Carillon Court shopping centre.

Despite having opened three weeks before the lockdown in March last year, the kiosk was popular with customers and the range of products sold continued to grow, prompting the move to bigger premises in Baxter Gate.
