Town athletes get Euro Indoor call
SPRINTER Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw lead a host of Loughborough athletes selected in a 41-strong squad to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the European Athletics Indoor Championships.
The championships will take place in Torun, Poland between March 4-7
Bradshaw will be hoping to repeat her golden success of 2013 after claiming silver at the 2019 edition of the Championships in Glasgow.
After clearing her highest bar in nine years in Rouen earlier this month, Bradshaw will be among the favourites for the women’s pole vault. Her 4.85m clearance was just two centimetres shy of her personal best.
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey will be in the 60m sprint, also included are 2018 World Indoor 60m hurdles champion and Loughborough Uni alumni Andrew Pozzi and 800m runner Guy Learmonth and Jamie Wenn, while Beth Dobbin is part of the 4x400m Relay team.
Olympic Head Coach at British Athletics, Christian Malcolm, said: “I’m pleased to be selecting such a strong Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Indoor Championships next month. It has been a challenging time for all athletes and coaches recently, but we have seen some incredible performances.
“Of course, we are looking to maximise the number of opportunities to win medals, but it is also about providing opportunities for developing athletes as well as established athletes to achieve a GB&NI vest.”
