How puzzles are keeping primary’s pupils active during the lockdown

-

REMOTE learning has been working exceptionally well at Booth Wood Primary School, Loughborough, according to staff.

And they are even hiding QR codes in the area so that on one day of the week, pupils and parents can take part in the Well-Being Wednesday Walk.

Pupils are fortunate in that, for the past three years, they have had access to their own iPads and are now using these at home to assist their learning.

They have online lessons from their class teacher throughout the school day covering the whole national curriculum.

However, emotional wellbeing is paramount during these challenging times and the school has worked tirelessly to support both their pupils and the community with this.

Every Wednesday, Mrs Hall (special educational needs coordinator) and Mrs Morley (schools emotional literacy teacher) will go into the community to hide QR codes spelling out words linked to their school’s values.

During daily exercise time, families (and the community) are encouraged to search for codes to find the hidden word.

When the code has been cracked, finders are asked to post the word on to the school’s new “BWPS Well-Being Wednesday Walk” Facebook page.

The word changes each Wednesday so they have a week in which to solve the codes.

In addition to QR codes, the school has also hidden 48 stones which have been painted by children at the school. Again, when they are found, people are encouraged to take a photo of them and post on to the Facebook page.

In addition, Mrs Hall has challenged herself to run the equivalent of a half marathon each week to keep both her mind and body healthy.

The youngsters have been asked to support her towards this goal by uploading activities that they are doing to support their own emotional well-being.

Other school staff are also uploading their mindfulness activities.

If you would like to contribute to Mrs Hall’s Just Giving page, you can find it on the “Lockdown Wellbeing” tab on the school’s website: www.boothwood.leics.sch.uk
