Quarry staff dig deep and donate boxes of supplies to food project

-

EMPLOYEES at Tarmac’s Mountsorrel quarry pulled together at the end of 2020 to donate food and other essential supplies to the Sore Valley Community Food Project.

Mick Stevens, estates manager at Mountsorrel, said: “Last year was tough.

“With Covid-19 affecting the nation in so many ways, charities across the country were being leaned on for support more than ever.

“With the added pressures of the pandemic, sadly, so many people were, and still are going without food.

“Supporting the Sore Valley Community Food Project was special to so many of us working at Mountsorrel Quarry.

“We were able to supply three collection boxes of non-perishable food, helping many of those who may have had to skip another meal.”

Elaine Budd, a volunteer at the Sore Valley Community Food Project, based at a Baptist church in Mountsorrel, said: “Food banks cannot operate without donations and we are tremendously grateful for the donations we have received from Mountsorrel Quarry.

“Our work at the Sore Valley Community Food Project isn’t just focussed on ensuring people eat.

“To support those without heating in their homes at this time of year, we provide financial support for gas so they can stay warm. We also guide people with the advice and support they need to ensure they never have to go to bed hungry again. Every single donation, however big or small, helps us in getting one step closer to this goal. “Once again, thank you to everyone who works at Tarmac and Mountsorrel Quarry, you have put a smile on many people’s faces.”

The collection at Mountsorrel was part of a wider campaign, with over 130 collection boxes being donated by Tarmac employees across the country to their chosen local charities, including foodbanks, hospital wards, as well as hospices and healthcare charities.
