COVID MAP. Sutton Bonington is included in an area of Nottinghamshire showing a drop in the problems of Covid-19 cases.

An interactive map has shown two Nottinghamshire neighbourhoods where cases have been almost eradicated, with Sutton Bonington one of them.

The map, on the Government’s Covid-19 dashboard, breaks down new Covid-19 cases for each individual area of the country.

It is shown as Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs), which are areas with an average population of 8,000 people used for census-based data.

And the map shows that two areas of the county have recorded fewer than three Covid-19 cases in the most recent seven-day period.

These areas include Ratcliffe on Soar, Sutton Bonington and Gotham and are the only two areas of the county where Covid figures have been “suppressed”.

The figures come after health bosses revealed that the county’s active R-rate is between 0.8 and 0.9. This means that, for every one case of Covid-19, fewer than one other person is being infected with the disease.

It is the first time since July last year that the county’s R-rate has fallen below 1, with the national R-rate currently sitting at between 0.7 and 0.9.

Despite this positive news, public health bosses have urged people to stick to the rules, particularly as the city and county’s rates have not dropped as substantially as the rest of the country.

Public health boss Jonathan Gribbin said last week: “The situation in Nottinghamshire as a whole, the rates are reducing slower than the rates in other parts of the country.

“We have to work harder as a community to achieve the same level of reduction. Right now we need to keep going with all the rules.”

COUNCILLOR TRAINING. Parish councillors at Sutton Bonington are learning more about their duties as a local councillor by undertaking training sessions by studying the contents of a publication from the National Association of Local Councils.

The parish council have purchased an additional copy of the publication and circulated it to members to study.

CHURCH BUSY. Despite the difficult and challenging aspects of dealing with the coronavirus situation, Sutton Bonington Baptist Church continues to be busy and to reach out to the wider community.

The church offers many groups and events happening throughout the week – be they being online --and invite anyone in the parish to have a look and see what may interest them.

FLOODING. Parish councillors at Sutton Bonington are still very actively involved in looking to ensure that attention continues to be directed towards possible flooding problems that affect their village.

In a report from the council, they say over the past weeks a lot of work has been competed in the background around the flooding in both Sutton Bonington itself and neighbouring Zouch.

It has confirmed that a Food Volunteer What’s App group has been created in case of an emergency and the flood warden has walked all of the ditches and dykes in the village to identify any issues, with this being carried out regularly to ensure no further issues arise.

The report said that the Flood Warden visited the vulnerable parishioner’s in Zouch when there were was a severe flood warning issued and arranged with Normanton and Sutton Bonington Village hall to be on standby in-case of evacuation.

Councillors were told that highways and Notts County Council completed a site visit to investigate the situation on Landcroft Lane and that Coun. Sam Collings has been working alongside Notts County Council in regard to the clearing of the drains within the village. Severn Trent have been working with the Flood warden to identify problem areas in the village and what they can do in their capacity to support.

The report said the Flood warden Duncan Collings has now identified 75% of the surface water drains in the village and 100% of the Ditches and Dykes and has these mapped and we are working with Notts County Council to identify the ownership following a site meeting which was held in late December 2020. Flood warden training is still outstanding, and we are awaiting dates from Notts County Council and are unable to gain signage until this has been completed.
