Normanton on Soar

-

PARISH COUNCIL. The following are extracts from the minutes of the Normanton on Soar Parish Council meeting held on 4th February 2021.

The full minutes can be viewed on the village website www.normantonon-soar.co.uk or on application to the Clerk to the Parish Council.

Three volunteers have come forward to be Flood Wardens with a fourth awaited.

Enforcement for dog fouling, litter and fly tipping has been outsourced. The company ( WISE) receives the fine money, and the level of enforcement activity and fines has increased significantly since they started in mid-January.

It is important to report any instances of any of these to Rushcliffe – they may clear it up (depending on location) or be able to investigate, but even when it seems they do nothing it is very important to have logs so that they can identify hot spots. If no incidents are logged it is assumed there is no problem.

Following a discussion, it was agreed to put the link to the minutes from the Parish Council website on Facebook. It was agreed to use Facebook where possible as it is a means of informing residents of news quickly, but with comments switched off and advising residents to contact the Clerk if they require further information.

Cllr Carys Thomas reported that Conservation Areas help against further development and slows it down and all trees would need permission so that the council can put a TPO on if required. The biggest benefit is trees. Following a discussion, it was agreed to investigate further the possibility of having a Conservation Area in Normanton.

NORMANTON ON SOAR COMMUNITY SHOP. Due to the new COVID-19 restrictions, the Normanton on Soar Community Shop will be shut until further notice. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible.

ST JAMES CHURCH – CHARITY OF THE YEAR. Each year, St James Church nominates a local charity to support and over the past 19 years, £12,200 has been donated to different charities. In 2020, the charity was The Carpenter’s Arms, a Christian abstinence-based residential programme for people aged 18-65 and challenged with homelessness due to an addictive lifestyle.

As we weren’t able to do our usual fundraising for our charity of the year in 2020, quite a few members of our congregation have suggested that we continue supporting The Carpenter’s Arms for a second year, which is what we are going to do.

We are also collecting groceries etc. For The Carpenter’s Arms and the baskets for donations are just inside the main door of the church. Please keep them coming – they are much appreciated.
