Businesses offered free resources to encourage shopping in safety

- By STAFF REPORTER

HIGH street businesses in Charnwood are being encouraged to back the borough council’s Shop Safe, Shop Local campaign.

A free resource pack includes a range of Covid-19 posters and social media images which businesses can display in their windows or on their social media channels.

The posters are in line with Covid-secure messaging to reassure the public that businesses are complying with the latest guidance and instructing shoppers to adhere to the rules on hands, face, space and other safety requirements.

Packs will be offered to businesses by the council’s high street ambassadors, but a digital version can also be downloaded from the council’s website.

Councillor Shona Rattray, lead member for business support, said: “The access to free resources is just one of the ways we are supporting local businesses through these difficult times.

“The messaging on the posters helps to provide a constant reminder to adhere to the safety guidance, keeping shoppers and businesses safe and supporting businesses to trade with confidence.

“We have also launched a shopping portal for local businesses called Shop Safe Charnwood, which has more than 80 traders.

“Many of our high street traders have adapted their business to include online trading and I would urge residents to consider the Charnwood online shopping site for any online purchases.

“Whether it’s buying online or shopping for essentials in the high street, please support our local traders and Shop Safe, Shop Local.”

The Shop Safe Charnwood website is a free e-commerce site to provide a digital high street with a local twist.

The site, shoplocal.charnwood.gov.uk offers businesses the opportunity to develop an online capability, either selling their products or showcasing their business as a directory.

Residents can continue to support local businesses and shop safely using delivery or click and collect options. Support is given to local businesses to help them develop their online shopping page and make it visible on the site.

The campaign is being backed by Love Loughborough, which has its own e-commerce site offering BID members in Loughborough the same chance to trade online, shop. loveloughborough.co.uk
