Quarterly contest

-

ROUND one of the annual Quarterly Competition took place at the Zoom meeting of Sileby Photographic Society

held on Monday, February 22, when responsibility for judging the entries fell to Gary Langley, DPAGB.

As the title suggests, the competition takes place over four rounds throughout the year. The rules needed to be modified this year in view of the Zoom format, and these allowed for a maximum of three digital images, monochrome or colour, per entrant in the open section with the subject matter being that of the entrant’s own choice. This was then followed by a themed section, the subject of which was ‘Decay’.

After a full and interesting evening, and with presentation completed, Gary’s awarded marks for each entry enabled the winners in each section to be identified as follows, with first place being awarded the maximum 20 points.

Three images in the open section achieved the maximum points and were, therefore, declared joint winners. These were ‘Grey Seal Pup’ by Mike Belson, and Gianpiero Ferrari’s two entries, ‘ Tiger Wild Stare’ and ‘Green-Veined White on Garlic Mustard, all wildlife and natural history images and each deserved the maximum points awarded.

The themed section, whereby ‘Decay’ was the pre-determined subject, was won by Mandy Sherrington whose image, ‘Reflected Decay’ achieved maximum points. Mandy was also awarded joint second place with ‘No Longer Seaworthy’ sharing the honours with Richard Storier whose image ‘Birnbeck Pier’ was equally impressive, with each entry scoring 19 points.

Thanks were given by John Hoogerwerf for Gary’s excellent judging which had offered constructive comments throughout, and also to those members who had taken part in the Competition

The next Zoom meeting will be held on Monday, 8th March, when visiting lecturer, Peter Bartlett, will present an evening of his choice.
