Yet another Covidiot is caught out at airport
MAN IS LATEST TO BE HANDED A £200 FINE
POLICE at East Midlands Airport have fined yet another uninvited visitor £200 for breaking coronavirus restrictions by driving to the airfield for no plausible reason.
The excuse given to officers by the latest person caught flouting the current lockdown rules was he had just got his licence back and “wanted to go for a drive”.
It was not his day, however, and he was also reprimanded for having another person with him who was not from the same household.
East Midlands Airport Police shared news of their latest intervention, which occurred recently.
The incident is the latest in a string of cases where officers have punished plane spotters and other unauthorised people breaking the rules by driving to the Castle Donington airfield.
The latest law-breaker was over the border in Nottinghamshire.
“Another Covid fine issued to male from Nottinghamshire found at East Midlands Airport’s perimeter gates,” said the officers.
“He stated his reason for the visit was that he’d recently got his licence back and wanted to go for a drive.
“He was also in company with another person not from the same household.”
Police patrolling the airport have been pleading with people to stay away, or face a fine.
A plane spotter was fined £200 for breaching lockdown rules after police found him observing aircraft at the airport, having travelled up to 30 miles from Mansfield on Sunday, February 14 to indulge his hobby. Police had also released footage the previous week of an officer confronting two people who had driven there “to watch planes”.
The individuals were also each fined £200 for breaching lockdown regulations, with only essential journeys currently allowed. East Midlands Airport Police have repeatedly said they will take a dim view of people who travel to the airfield without a valid reason. Ahead of the third national lockdown at the start of January, airport police said: “Needless to say that lockdown rules apply at East Midlands Airport and the surrounding area. “You should only leave home for essential reasons. Observing and photographing aircraft is not essential.”
