Hollywood star rolls up for jab

- By AMY ORTON News Reporter

NHS staff were starstruck when a Hollywood actress rolled up her sleeve at Leicester Royal Infirmary for her Covid vaccine.

Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, who lives in Rutland, was at the city hospital on Tuesday to get her first dose of the jab.

The award-winning star was reported as saying in a media interview earlier in the pandemic that she was “terrified of catching the virus” having known “lots of people” who have.

The 60-year-old actress, who has starred in huge hit films including Four Weddings and a Funeral and The English Patient, and more recently Military Wives, posted on Instagram after receiving her jab, writing: “Vaccinated by the fantastic people at Leicester Hospital.

“It was really easy. No waiting, no fuss, no stress.”

She indicated she had been treated by “Beth” and “Dave” and praised them and the set-up for being “organised, kind, cheerful and optimistic”.

She added: “As The Queen says, we should be doing it to save others”.

Dame Scott Thomas was among the latest batch of patients to be vaccinated in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Almost 50,000 Covid vaccines have been given across the region this week, taking the total injections up to 342,885.

Of those, 331,828 were first doses and just over 11,000 second doses.

The overall total has increased by 48,452 since the last update. Doses counted were given in the seven days before February 28.

As of the start of this week, over60s were being invited to book their jabs in the continuing structured roll-out of vaccinations.

Others in the current round include those deemed at high risk from coronavirus, people who live or work in care homes, health and social care workers and those who are a main carer for someone at high risk from Covid.

The government is aiming to have offered all over-50s a first jab by the middle of April.
