In addition to a platinum award for high standards, the loos have won the full-time attended public toilets category, while the council workers who maintain them received the washroom cleaner of the year award.

The toilets were recognised by Loo of the Year Awards organisers in previous years.

Councillor Jenny Bokor, the Council’s lead member for Loughborough, said: “We are delighted the toilets in Market Place have once again been recognised as a high-quality facility.

“They are located right at the heart of the town centre and provide a fantastic range of facilities to meet the needs of visitors.

“This is the second year running they have achieved platinum at the awards. Our cleaning staff work incredibly hard to achieve this standard and last year was no exception.

“I would like to pass my thanks on to everyone involved in maintaining these public conveniences.”

The Market Place toilets have baby changing facilities and a disabled toilet.

They are usually open seven days a week between 9am and 5pm, except Thursday and Saturday (market days), when they are open 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Due to the pandemic the opening hours are slightly different.

The Loo of the Year Awards are run independently and were first established in 1987.
