SPRING WATER COMPANY NOW OFFERS A GREENER ALTERNATIV­E TO PLASTIC BOTTLES

A FAMILY-RUN spring water company is making its offering more eco-friendly as it is now selling its product in fully recyclable aluminium cans.

Swithland Spring Water, based near Loughborou­gh, has started retailing its water in the 330ml cans, in efforts to provide more sustainabl­e packaging for consumers.

Brian Beeby, managing director of Swithland Spring Water, said: “We are all so excited about the launch of our spring water in cans. We have received such positive feedback from those who have seen and tried the cans and we can’t wait to spread the word further.”

A canning line has been installed just a few yards from the spring.

Once filled, the cans are boxed in plastic-free packaging from Leicesters­hire-based Harley’s Boxes.

This means that as well as being fully recyclable, the carbon footprint of the product remains very low.

These factors also allow Swithland Spring Water to help other businesses fulfil their targets of reducing their plastic wastage and carbon footprints, including Leicesters­hire Fire and Rescue Service.

The cans can be recycled a limitless number of times and can go the material can go from being binned after use to being back on the shelf in 60 days.

Drinkers can get both still and sparking water provided by the firm in shops and cafes in the area.

Swithland Spring Water sources its water from beneath the Charnwood Hills, a moderately mineralise­d spring with its own unique flavour.

The spring was discovered at Hall Farm after continuous problems with a flooded cellar The Charnwood region is home to some of Europe’s oldest volcanic rocks, with water running off from the rocky areas around Bradgate Park into the more porous regions where the farm is located.
