‘Bags of Hope’ for children hit hard by school closures
“BAGS of Hope” will be distributed across Leicestershire and Rutland this Easter as part of a charity campaign.
The latest lockdown dashed the hopes of many schoolchildren who need the stability, refuge, meals, activity and social settings that the education system provides, on top of learning in the classroom.
Leicestershire Cares ran a successful Collect 4 Christmas campaign and, along with local business members, partners and support groups, raised nearly £15,000.
This was distributed in the form of #Togetherwecare festive gift bags.
The latest campaign aims to distribute Bags of Hope to children of all ages through its partner community groups and schools.
A donation of £20 will provide two Bags of Hope, each containing craft activities such as a paint your own mug, pens or a colouring book/ journal, plus social activity items such as a tic-tac-toe game or a ball, skipping rope, a flying disc or yo-yo.
Leona Harris, Leicestershire Cares community development coordinator, who is leading the campaign, said: “It’s a great way for local businesses, partners and wider supporters to show citizenship, solidarity and empathy with our local children.
“It’s hoped that they will enjoy being creative, active and love the chocolate treats.”

All the bags will be distributed this week.
