Dave pitches in with memories from winning match with twin town team
READER David Pritchard has been in touch with us and sent in a picture.
He said he found a picture of a football team with him in it many years ago while he was clearing out a house.
David takes up the story...
“I am an ex-Loughborough Dynamo player, who my dad played for at its inception. I think this photo was from the Echo office at the time.
“I know all the lads but one escapes me, mostly from Garendon or Burleigh, but I am not sure of the year exactly. It might have been in the summer holidays in between (1975/76), leaving Garendon and going to Burleigh.
“In the picture, top left to right, is Nigel Brooks, Gaz Richardson, Mark Selby, Terry Henson, Mick (Tiny) Robinson, Craig Bettoney; Reg Kendal (next, not sure, Russell?), Colin Squires, Dave Percival, (me) Dave Pitchford, Pete Squires.
“I think Terry Hensom came around my house and asked, can you get any players for Sunday?
“Dave Percival, my lifelong friend, now in Ireland, also played in that match.
“He has reliably informed me we were the official Loughborough youth team (formed the day before) to represent Loughborough against our German twin town team from Schwäbisch Hall And yes, we won! 2-1 Da da dada da da da - just checking on confirmation if I scored! He says we were 14 years of age in the photo. I will say we look more like a team from that film Escape To Victory than officially the town’s representatives for Loughborough. It is official, Dave says I did score and thinks it was the winner. They thought it was all over...it is now!”
