Chance for three council tenants to help shape borough’s housing services
THREE places on a housing advisory board are on offer to council tenants who would like to have their say on how council housing services are run.
Charnwood Borough Council’s housing management advisory board (HMAB) discusses issues that affect tenants and leaseholders including performance of the council’s landlord service, budgets, policies and investment in homes.
The board is currently made up of eight members: four council tenants/leaseholders, three borough councillors and an independent representative.
Members serve a three-year term of office and the board meets six times a year.
The idea is to increase the number of tenant members by two to six, and with the three-year term of office expiring for an existing member, three tenant member positions are available in all.
The council is looking for tenants who are keen to get involved and make a difference to the way services are delivered.
Peter Oliver, head of landlord services, said: “It is essential that our service is tailored to the needs of our tenants and leaseholders, and the advisory board plays an important role in this.
“It is very important for us to engage with our customers so we can continue to find out what we are doing well and where we can do better.
“This is a superb opportunity for tenants to have a real influence on the way we deliver our services.”
Recommendations of the board are submitted to the council’s cabinet and taken into account when decisions are made.
Anyone interested in becoming a member can apply online via the Council’s website at www. charnwood.gov.uk/hmab_ recruitment.
The deadline for applications is Friday April 16.
Interviews and the appointment process will take place at the beginning of May, with a decision and appointment made before the board meets on May 12.
