Book takes children on a flight through time
A PROFESSIONAL violist turned author from Shepshed has released a children’s adventure book with an animal conservation theme.
Judy Brulo has written The Buried
City - A Tale of Two Time Zones, her eighth book in seven years and a prequel to her Vulture Island Trilogy.
The series is inspired by the griffon vultures Judy would often see during her years living and working in Cyprus.
The books aim to gently educate children about conservation while entertaining them with an adventure story.
The latest instalment follows Luke and his vulture pal, Griff, on their adventure to try and find Vulture Island’s Buried City.
They travel back in time to the Mycenaean civilization of 1,200 BC, where they meet Greek gods and a brave young girl.
Ms Brulo, 69, was inspired to take up writing by her two young grandchildren, Kaia and Taio, now aged 13.
She used to write short stories to read to them almost every week, choosing topics that interested them.
Her vulture books are endorsed by the Vulture Conservation Foundation, after she contacted them to fact check her first book.
She said: “I’ll always remember the first time I saw a Griffon Vulture.
“I was driving along a coastal c road in Cyprus and a saw a huge bird launch la itself off the cliff and an over the sea.
“I’d never seen such a large la bird in my life before. be
“I thought it could be a really good starting point po for an adventure story st combined with the magical ma island of Cyprus, a ab boy and some archaeology.” arcT
