‘Socially spacious’ food and film fest to premiere

STAND-UP COMEDY, MOVIE CLASSICS AND RECENT RELEASES AT JULY EVENT

- By BECKY JONES

A new film and food festival is heading to Leicester this summer.

Created by touring outdoor cinema company Adventure Cinema, Film and Food Fest will tour 15 city parks across the UK, including the city’s Abbey Park.

According to organisers, the “socially spacious festival” will be the first event of its kind, featuring four days of outdoor cinema with classic movies and recent releases, plus stand-up comedy from some of the UK’s best-loved comedians. There will also be street food from each city, and specially-curated short films from regional filmmakers in each location.

The festival will be at Abbey Park from Thursday, July 1, to Sunday, July 4.

A total of £2 from every ticket sold for the short film nights will be used to support film organisations in each city.

Each Thursday evening of Film and Food Fest will feature a showcase of short movies from independent filmmakers. Different in each region, the showcase will highlight the work of local creatives, giving their films a major platform and giving audiences an exclusive chance to see new work.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, you’ll be able to see family films, with classics such as The Lion King and The Goonies, and modern favourites such as The Greatest Showman Sing-A-Long, Onward and Doolittle.

The street food from local traders will be curated by Street Food Warehouse.

Gates will open up to three hours before each film starts, to ensure visitors have plenty of time to enjoy all that there is on offer.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings will feature live comedy, followed by blockbuster movies.

There will be a varied mix of films on offer, including favourites such as Grease and Dirty Dancing and some of 2020’s finest such as Joker, JoJo Rabbit and The Invisible Man.

To ensure the safety of its events, Film and Food Fest will be taking place exclusively in socially spacious, outdoor venues across the country. According to organisers, there will also be other measures in place, meaning the festival will be 100 per cent compliant with government safety guidelines.

Adult tickets start at £16.50 plus booking fee.

For afternoon showings, children aged 12 and under go half-price (plus booking fee). Ticket holders will be offered a 100 per cent moneyback guarantee should anything mean that the events cannot go ahead, orgainsers said.
