They did rather more than that, winning 7-1 at Judgemeadow College. Jack McLachlan opened the scoring in the seventh minute, a Tom Insley header on 27 minutes doubled the advantage, and the tie was killed off with an own goal five minutes before the turnaround to make it 3-0.

Group A, which just two weeks ago looked like a procession, has been thrown up in the air. On Friday night, Friar Lane & Epworth’s game at home to Desford, which could potentially have seen both sides progress, was postponed after a Covid scare left the home side unable to play. The match has been re-scheduled for Wednesday night at Spice Bazaar Park, subject to Friar Lane clearing the League’s Covid protocols. That gave both Allexton & New Parks and Ashby Ivanhoe Knights the chance to profit. Allexton though blew their chance, losing 3-1 away to County Hall.

Meanwhile, it was an episode of the late late show at Warwick Road, where Blaby & Whetstone welcomed Ashby Ivanhoe Knights who won 3-2 with an injury time winner.

Desford are guaranteed a semifinal spot, but will miss out on winning the group if they lose to Friar Lane on Wednesday night by four goals or more.
