Big thanks to NHS staff

-

IN these difficult times, one could understand if the NHS was no longer able to provide the same level of treatment and care as we have come to expect over many years.

However, my recent experience with Glenfield Hospital Breast Centre and with Ward 24 could hardly have been better.

Being diagnosed with breast cancer, requiring a mastectomy, is something that every women dreads; so when it happened to me, I was very anxious as to what the future held.

However, following an understandable 16-month delay due to Covid, during which I was kept fully informed of progress, I was admitted on May 27 this year.

As this was my third major operation, every precaution had to be taken, including moving my pacemaker away from the side where it had been implanted earlier, to the opposite side, so it would not be affected by the surgery.

Everything was explained in detail to me, and the kindness of the nurses and ward staff was excellent.

The surgery itself was successful and I was allowed to return home the following day to convalesce for six weeks. I am also pleased and relieved to say that I have just been given the all-clear, subject to an annual check-up.

I feel that I must place on record my grateful thanks to the NHS, to Glenfield Hospital, and particularly to my consultant surgeon, Miss Kenny, and anaesthetist, Dr Jonck, not only for their excellent skills, but also for the kindness and patience shown to me throughout the whole process.

At age 76, I am hoping that this has been the last major operation that I will need; so once again, thank you to all the staff at Glenfield Hospital for your wonderful care, and three cheers for our incredible NHS!
