Proceed with caution say the council

-

PROCEED with caution is the message from the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council as most Covid-19 legal restrictions were lifted last week.

Councillor Jonathan Morgan says while last Monday was a significant milestone as the country enters Step 4 in the Government’s roadmap, there is a need to remain vigilant and to follow the guidance which remains in place, for instance wearing face coverings in crowded public settings such as public transport.

From Monday, July 19, all legal limits on social contact have been removed.

In addition to that nightclubs have been able to reopen once again and restrictions on large events such as weddings and performances are now lifted for the first time.

Cllr Morgan said: “The lifting of restrictions was a significant milestone but we need to remain cautious as the pandemic is far from over.

“The vaccine programme has helped to get us to this step and that’s why I would strongly urge anyone who has not had the vaccine to get it as soon as possible.

“Do it to protect yourself, your family and your friends and to help make sure we can continue to live without restrictions.

“The Council has supported communities throughout the pandemic, and we will continue to do so. We will also continue to monitor the situation very closely with partners and take any necessary action to help make sure people remain safe.

“We should also remember those who have lost their lives over the past 16 months. Our thoughts are with the families affected.

“Finally, on behalf of Charnwood Borough Council I would like to thank residents, businesses, partners and organisations for helping each other in these very difficult circumstances that we have all faced.

“We look forward to continuing working with you to rebuild our communities and local economy.”
