Rothley golfers aiming to set new world record

-

GOLFERS at Rothley Park are attempting to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest ever 18 holes by a team of golfers.

The current record – set by Farnham Golf Club in 2015 - is an astonishing 13 minutes and 42 seconds!

Alan Dorn, Rothley Park’s Men’s Captain said: “Our members are all fired up and keen to challenge the current record. Their enthusiasm and response has been fantastic. Our fairways will be flooded with players of all different handicap categories, all of whom want to help achieve our goal and also raise valuable money for our Captains’ charities.

“The GWR criteria is quite strict”, added Lady Captain Jenny Piecha. “Along with independent witnesses to ensure the attempt is played within the rules of golf the whole event is to be filmed, which is no mean feat for a cameraman to keep up with the pace of play on from a buggy!”

Their respective charities are close to the hearts of both Captains. Menieres Disease which supports and helps sufferers with hearing difficulties and Lyme Disease, because Jenny’s daughter has suffered with this debilitating disease for the last 28 years.

The format will be teams positioned around all 18 holes at the start. The ball will be driven off the first tee and players will be placed on the fairway to hit the next shot until the ball is on the green. Once the ball is in the hole a signal will be given to the person waiting on the second tee, to tee off immediately.

This method will proceed around the course in a relay format until the ball is finally putted into the hole on the 18th.

The attempt will take place on Sunday, August 15 and is being supported by local businesses including the Star Inn at Thrussington, Camozzi Automation Ltd, Leicester City Football Club, LRM Goods and further afield The Four Seasons Country Club, Algarve, Portugal, who have donated a fabulous holiday at its luxury resort for up to six people.
