Fosseway open up lead at the top of Division One

THE top of the table Bowls Loughborou­gh Monday Men’s Division 1 clash between leaders Syston Fosseway and Birstall Sands went the way of Fosseway who recorded a convincing 59-41 (7-1) win to open up a six point gap between themselves and new second placed Birstall Lighthouse who move above fellow club side Sands following their 51-41 (6-2) win at Belgrave Cygnets, leaving Cygnets five points adrift at the foot of the table.

An extremely close game at Birstall based St Margarets where hosts, Saints, took the match by two shots but had to settle for a share of the points against visitors Queens Park Queens 50-48 (4-4) whilst it was the visitors Shepshed Rams who won the match and shared the points against Thringston­e Woodpecker­s in another close encounter ending 52-47 (4-4). Loughborou­gh Phoenix Pegasus were the visitors at East Leake and ran out victors 53-44 (6-2) against hosts Willows.

Leaders in Division 2 Quorn Weavers were made to battle for the points on their travels to Syston, overcoming hosts White Plum 53-50 (5-3) to sit five points above second placed Sileby Swallows who beat Wymeswold Wolds 46-36 (6-2).

Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s Badgers jump into third place following their comprehens­ive 64-36 (8-0) win over struggling St Margarets Maggies

whilst the mid table clash between Rothley Crusaders and Loughborou­gh Brush Peregrines was a close affair, Crusaders home advantage saw them take the honours 54-53 (6-2) to lift them a couple of places up the table. Sutton Bonington Riversider­s hosted neighbours Kegworth who took the spoils 56-46 (6-2) to move level on points with their hosts.

Division 3 leaders Syston Fosseway Romans travelled to Mountsorre­l to play second placed Soar Valley Avons where they found the hosts on strong form, Avons taking the game 68-33 (8-0) to move within one point of Romans and also have a game in hand. Keyworth Commandos kept in touch with the top two with a good win on their travels to Shepshed, defeating hosts Lambs, 61-32 (8-0) to leave themselves within three points of the leaders.

The bottom four teams all had close games, Soar Valley Merlins going down 47-49 (4-4) at home to Syston Swords and remain at the foot of the table whilst Belgrave Ringers had the best result with a 55-52 (5-3) win at Quorn Dons. Loughborou­gh Brush Hawks entertaine­d Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s Foxes at Nanpantan and despite winning the match had to share the points 53-45 (4-4).

Kegworth and East Leake both took advantage of the game between Ladies Tuesday

league leaders Wymeswolds and Sileby being called off to move above them with convincing wins. Kegworth are the new leaders on rink wins following their 36-7 (6-0) win at Loughborou­gh Phoenix whilst East Leake also took all the points in their 40-4 (6-0) win at Holt Drive against hosts Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s.

There was also full house wins for Soar Valley and Shepshed, Mountsorre­l based Soar Valley had a 46-31 (6-0) victory over Keyworth whilst Shepsheds visit to Nanpantan to play Loughborou­gh Brush resulted in a 41-28 (6-0) win for the visitors.

Shepshed North continue at the top of the Men’s Thursday evening league Division 1 after a close scoring game against Thringston­e Rangers, North taking the game 64-61 (8-2) to sit six points ahead of

New Lount Hares who moved above East Leake Willows into second place following their 68-46 (10-0) victory against the Willows.

Loughborou­gh Phoenix Flyers played a rink short against St Margarets Maggies and the Maggies took full advantage to secure a 66-40 (10-0) win.

Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s are the new leaders of Division 2 after they beat Wymeswold Wolds in a close scoring game 65-63 (8-2) to move one point ahead of previous leaders Syston Fosseway who dropped valuable points despite winning 56-40 (6-4) against Queens Park Carilloner­s.

Loughborou­gh Brush Eagles continue at the top of Division 3 following their 60-52 (8-2) win against Shepshed South but Soar Valley closed the gap by two points with a 58-32 (10-0) win against fellow club side Soar Valley Valoars but still remain nine points behind Eagles. The game between Rothley Knights and Sileby Swifts was abandoned after six ends due to rain and will have to be played at a later date.

There is no change in the top two places in the Ladies Friday evening league where New Lount retain the top place following a close scoring game 39-33 (6-0) win at Quorn whilst Shepshed Lambs sit five points behind after an excellent 44-23 (6-0) win against third place Wyemswold. Syston based Fosseway made the long trip to East Leake with only one rink and were always on the back foot, going down 26-2 (6-0) to the hosts. In the remaining game Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s had a good 42-21 (6-0) win away at Shepshed Lions.
