-

LOUGHBOROUGH Town closed the gap on Kibworth at the top of the Leicestershire and Rutland Premier Division table on Saturday, when they beat them by four wickets.

Loughborough won the toss and put the league leaders into bat and made an early breakthrough when Matt Craven was dismissed for four when he was caught by Gurbaj Singh off the bowling of Ubay Modhwadia with the score on 13.

Wickets kept falling cheaply until Kibworth captain Darren

Shaw steadied the ship.

He made an unbeaten 60 not out as he guided his team to a total of 171-8.

Nick Green was the pick of the Town bowlers taking 3-37.

In reply, Loughborough lost Green fot a duck with the score on 6-1, but Jai Modhvadia and Ashish Trusz put on 46 for the second wicket before Trusz was out for 14.

Opener Modhvadia top scored with 64 as Loughborough reached their target of 172-6 in the 37th over to secure a four wicket victory.

Sileby Town are still in the hunt thanks to a 107 run home win over Cropston who looked destined to finish bottom of the table.

On Saturday, Cropston won the toss and elected to put their hosts into bat.

Although Cropston made a great start when Luke Gale was dismissed for a duck off the fourth ball of the innings, Dave Torr and Liam Kinch went on to make 101 for the second wicket partnership before torr was trapped LBW off the bowling of Ian Allen just three runs short of his half century.

Allen struck again two balls later to dismiss Ajay Khunti for a duck to make it 101-3 but further solid partnerships saw Sileby post a total of 259 all out, Liam Kinch top scoring with 95 runs.

Rothley batted first and made 199 all out, Chris Yates top scoring with 68.

In reply, set a rain revised target of 230, Kegworth secured the win with the final ball of the match after an innings built on the back of Jonathan Wall’s 87 and Declan Oldreive’s 51.
