UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION NORTH HEATHER ST JOHN’S 4
QUORN 2 QUORN slipped to an away defeat as they opened their campaign away at Heather St Johns.
They had a nightmare start going behind after 90 seconds when Heather’s Sam Ellis saw his shot bundled into his own goal by Kieran Blades to put the hosts one up.
But Quorn then took control, equalising after eight minutes Mangondoza cutting in from left to hit a right foot low drive past the outstretched Aidan Jeynes to make it 1-1.
Quorn were now in the ascendancy and were guilty of not taking their chances and came up against a resolute defence, Joe McNullty hooking clear off his own goal line.
Although Heather didn’t venture into Quorn’s half too much they did have opportunities Sam Ellis on a charge couldn’t finish and James Spruce setting Ellis whose effort blocked Max Edward Culverwell in the Quorn goal.
The Saints took the lead just before the break when Sam Ellis followedup a rebound from the keeper saving from James Spruce.
After the interval Heather opened a two goal advantage when Oliver Jarret found space in the box to slot home.
Probably the best goal came from a cool, calm and collected John Mills, the big midfielder taking his time in he box to send send a unstoppable powerful drive past Culverwell to make it 4-1 to the Saints..
Jeynes made a fine save from Luke Varney to keep Heather’s advantage but was beaten by Kyle Bryant’s powerful right foot drive from distance as Quorn made it 4-2 but the Heather defence held firm to claim the points.
