Horse fair rides into village for second time in three months

-

A travellers’ horse fair is returning to Mountsorrel for a second time this year.

The Betty Hensers Horse Fair took place in June and is returning for another four days next week.

Police in Charnwood posted an update on Facebook to say officers would be monitoring the upcoming event, off Betty Hensers Lane.

The team said: “Leicestershire Police is working with partners, including Charnwood Borough Council, to liaise with the event organisers, the landowner, residents and businesses in the lead up to the event, to assist with planning and to help with minimising the impact to traffic and local communities.

“Police and the council continue to monitor the situation in the lead up to the event and police officers will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area during the day and night across the four days to engage, to offer reassurance and to respond to any incident should it be required.”

The event has been criticised in the past for causing traffic problems on the A6 and littering in the countryside.

However, officers issued a thank you message to everyone involved in the June event, saying that the event passed without any major incidents, although there were reports of criminal damage caused to narrowboats in the marina next to where the fair was held.

Officers said there has been no issues reported in relation to traffic management for the June event.

The latest event will take place between Thursday and Sunday.
