Teens nearing age of 18 can book jab

JABS NOW ON OFFER TO YOUNGER PEOPLE

-

PEOPLE nearing their 18th birthday are now able to have a Covid jab.

Teenagers within three months of turning 18 can now book their vaccine appointment online through the National Booking Service or by calling 119.

They will receive a text message inviting them to get vaccinated at one of several sites in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

GP practices offering the vaccine will also be inviting eligible young people to get their vaccine.

Additionally, people aged 16 and 17 can get their jab by turning up at a walkin clinic taking place over the weekend.

No appointment is necessary. Caroline Trevithick, executive director of nursing, quality and performance at Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups said: “Our local vaccination programme has been going from strength to strength thanks to the tremendous response of our population, NHS staff and volunteers.

“I’d like to urge young people to come forward and get vaccinated so that they are protected against the virus ahead of going back to university or college next month.

“We have made it really easy for eligible young people to get their jab, so if you have received a text message invite, or an invite from your GP practice, please protect yourself and others by getting vaccinated.

“Alternatively, you can just turn up at one of our walk-in clinics this weekend.

“It’s really important you come forward and get vaccinated when it’s your turn.”

In line with recent Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation guidance, the NHS is vaccinating people who are 16 and 17 with a single dose of the jab at GP and walk-in sites.

Children aged 12 to 15 who are clinically vulnerable to Covid or who live with adults who are at increased risk of serious illness from the virus are also being contacted by the NHS and invited for their vaccine.

Text invitations appear as an alert from “NHSvaccine” and include a web link to the NHS website to reserve an appointment.

People who cannot go online can call the service on 119 instead to book their jab.
