ROAD SAFETY. Police officers from the Rushcliffe Operation Reacher team are teaming up with the mobile camera officers to tackle speeding motorists, with Sutton Bonington one of the areas likely to be tackled.

Officers from the Rushcliffe Operation Reacher team have teamed up with the Traffic Safety Camera Team as part of targeted work around speeding in the area.

The force told the Echo: “Residents have been telling us that they’ve seen an increase in speeding, so we’ve brought out the big guns. It’s just one way we are tackling the issues that you are telling us are a priority.

‘Speeding is one of the ‘fatal four’ offences and is one of the top contributors to deaths on the road and officers were out across the area ensuring drivers were keeping to a safe speed limit.

“We all need to do our bit and keep to the speed limits.

“Roads are getting busier as we come out of lockdowns, working from home is becoming a thing of the past and children are also on their summer holidays now.

“Let’s all do our bit and make the roads a safer place to be, and thank you to everyone for their continued efforts in helping us with this.

“Please watch your speed as you’re out and about and enjoy the summer holidays safely.”

PLANS. Conditional planning permission has been given by Rushcliffe Borough Council for the construction of a two storey 4 bedroom dwelling with swimming pool and attached 3 car garage and the construction of stables and tack room at Brookland House, 4 Park Lane, Sutton Bonington.

JAB APPEAL. Sutton Bonington residents are among those in Rushcliffe where it is being suggested they are behind the national average in taking up the opportunity to have their vaccine jabs, and they are being urged to put that right.

Rushcliffe Borough Council say residents across the Borough -- with Sutton Bonington on a list of those being especially mentiioned -- are being reminded to ‘Grab A Jab’ if they are yet to receive their first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, through leaflets being distributed by Rushcliffe Borough Council’s waste team.

Householders in the Borough have engaged well with the programme to date as over 88% of residents have received a first jab.

In conjunction with the local NHS, the teams will be distributing the further messaging to selected neighbourhoods in the coming days and weeks.

Residents in Sutton Bonington, Keyworth, Cotgrave, Ruddington, East Leake and the Trent Bridge and Lutterell wards of West

Bridgford will receive the information following slightly lower uptake of the vaccine in these areas.

However figures are only slightly lower when compared with all other areas of Rushcliffe and not linked to any higher number of COVID-19 cases in any locality.

Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Simon Robinson said: “Thank you to everyone who has already received both doses of the vaccine and played their part in protecting each other from COVID-19.

“We continue to encourage all residents to receive the vaccine, including those within three months of their 18th birthday, as confirmed by the NHS locally in the past week.

“We know vaccine uptake across the Borough is good but we want as many people as possible to receive this vital vaccination and continue to help lower COVID cases and hospitalisations and this extra push in some of our communities we hope will lead to many more grabbing a jab.

“Simply call 119 or visit nhs. uk/covid19vaccine to book a jab.”

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES. There were temporary road closures in operation last week around the Sutton Bonington campus of Nottingham University which affected the access route and caused Hopper Bus changes.

On Monday to Thursday the Estate office were undertaking major road resurfacing works on the Campus during which time the entrance and exit on to College road was closed.

Any vehicles wanting to access and egress from the campus had to do so through the South Entrance located on Landcroft ane.

Since retiring he is heavily involved with Nottingham Rugby and for the past year has been the Lead Flood warden for the village and continues to work on the various aspects of involving flood prevention work affecting the parish.

BUS SERVICE PLANS.

Parishioners in Sutton Bonington are being asked by Notts County Council to help them draft a Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) for Nottinghamshire and Nottingham, in collaboration with the county’s bus operators.

The project stems from the government’s recently published National Bus Strategy -- called ‘Bus Back Better’ -- , which requires all English local transport authorities to work with bus operators to come up with bold plans for improving their local bus services and encouraging more people to use them. Government has pledged £3 billion in funding across the country to help deliver these plans, and Nottinghamshire and Nottingham are aiming to secure a fair share of that funding.

As an important input to the plan, the county say they want to find out what people think would improve local bus services and what would make them use local buses more.

“We are keen to hear from people who already use buses and from those who currently don’t, and we also want to hear from public, private and voluntary organisations who have an interest in making our bus services work better.
