Disappointing display sees Shepshed humbled

EMIRATES FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND LONG EATON UNITED 4 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 0

-

SHEPSHED Dynamo exited the Emirates FA Cup at the Preliminary Round after a disappointing 4-0 defeat against Long Eaton United at Grange Park on Saturday.

Despite starting both halves strongly Dynamo didn’t produce a consistent enough performance to merit a place in the next round and fell behind on 17 minutes through James Gale.

Long Eaton went onto score three further goals in the second half. Alex Marshall on 71 minutes, a Dan Tuck own goal on 76 minutes and an injury time goal for Danny Gordon.

The first couple of chances fell to Shepshed. Dan Tuck feeding Karl Demidh on two minutes but his shot was straight at Sam Wilson. Tuck was unlucky on five minutes but his ball went straight into to Sam Wilson.

Although Long Eaton United were a step below Dynamo they had several players who were established at Shepshed’s level and they began to assert their authority on the game.

James Gale’s effort was deflected wide on eight minutes and from the resultant corner Danny Gordon headed into Matty White. Seven minutes later White was forced into another save from Tom Marshall.

Long Eaton took the lead on 17 minutes a misplaced pass from Reiff Armstrong found Alex Marshall. The danger looked over as Jordan Wakeling looked to shepherd the ball back to White but James Gale nipped in between the two to open the score.

Josh Mundell was unlucky not to level the score on 19 minutes when his effort went over the crossbar.

Kieran Walker’s long throws were always a danger and White did well to tip over on 21 minutes., Alex Marshall fired wide a minute later after a drop ball and White then cleared from Brad Wilson on 30 minutes.

Despite all the pressure Shepshed had taken they still had further chances to level before the break Matt Melbourne fired over on 33 minutes and five minutes later Demidh’s free kick was straight at Sam Wilson.

Dynamo’s best chance fell on 41 minutes Melbourne who’s cross come shot hit the upright and Mundell was unable to turn the rebound in.

The final chance of the half fell to Jamie Walker as Long Eaton United took a slender lead at the break.

Shepshed had the first chance of the second half with Tuck firing over in 47 minutes.

Long Eaton then had a chance to double their lead but Kam Campbell also fired over on 57 minutes.

Melbourne came close to levelling with a header on 63 minutes and a minute later Liam Canavan fired a free kick wide.

Shepshed were showing signs of getting back in the game with a Demidh shot blocked by Kieran Walker on 68 minutes and Melbourne saved a minute later by Sam Wilson.

But it was Long Eaton to strike next with Alex Marshall making it two volleying home from his brother Tom Marshall’s cross on 71 minutes.

Five minutes later the tie was over the assistant referee initially having his flag up for offside on Micah Jebbison but the goal was given and accredited as an own goal from Tuck on 76 minutes.

Things went from bad to worse after using all their substitutes White in goal had to leave the game through injury and defender Joel Wolfe went between the sticks on 80 minutes leaving Dynamo to see the game out with ten men.

Wolfe now in goal saved from Gale on 86 minutes.

United made it four in injury time Danny Gordon beating Wolfe Dynamo’s makeshift keeper with a fierce shot into the top corner.

A disappointing day out for Shepshed who will be looking for a confidence building performance away to Soham Town Rangers on Saturday before their home derby against Loughborough Dynamo on Bank Holiday Monday, kick off 3pm.
