CHURCH. Both St Michael’s and St Anne’s parish churches at Sutton Bonington will be open on Saturday to welcome both walkers and cyclists who will be taking part in the Nottingham­shire Historic Churches Trust annual Ride and Stride event.

The visitors, from all over Nottingham­shire, can be expected to be in Flintham any times between 10am and 6pm.

All those taking part look for sponsorshi­p and the money raised is for the Trust who work includes giving support to churches through grants for repairs and other work.

Walkers and cyclists are sponsored to visit as many participat­ing churches as possible and fifty per cent of all money raised go to the trust and the other 50 per cent to the participan­ts own church.

TENNIS CLUB. Sutton Bonington and District Tennis Club continues its activities in the improving – be it perhaps at times only slowly -- Covid19 situation and are happy to give their informatio­n to anyone interested in being involved.

Players of all abilities are most welcome with junior coaching sessions held twice a week and usually well attended.

The 100 Club which as well as giving out of course prize money helps the funds o the club and goes towards running costs and the planned improvemen­ts the general facilities available to members.

COMMUNITY FUND REMINDER. A reminder is given to Sutton Bonington groups that East Midlands Airport Community Fund will give considerat­ion to making grants to local organisati­ons in the village. Applicatio­n forms can be downloaded from www. eastmidlan­dsairport.com/ community.

WATER AID. The Water Aid charity have improved water provision in Tombohuaun, a tiny village deep in the jungle of Sierra Leone thanks in part to some financial help from Sutton Bonington.

Although the village in question is very tiny there have recently been big things happening and the residents there of what is a vibrant, and resourcefu­l community are celebratin­g the arrival of clean water with their joys knowing no bounds. And such was the excitement a day long village dance was held to celebrate the improvemen­t given to the residents.

The village were presented with a gift of £44.30 from St Michael with St Anne’s churches and have given thanks to everyone involved for generosity. The village says the gift helped them to install a tapstand in Tombohuaun, bringing a

INDECENT EXPOSURE. A man in a boat indecently exposed himself to a woman walking beside the River Soar at Sutton Bonington.

The woman was walking alone when the incident occurred on July 20 and police are investigat­ing.

A further crime happened in the village on July 30 when two catalytic convertors were stolen from cars parked on Park Lane and the Paddocks.

Details of the crimes committed during the month have been reported to the local Neighbourh­ood Watch Co-ordinator and to Sutton Bonington Parish Council

UNITED SERVICE. A special United Service was held in the open air in front of Sutton Bonington St Michael’s Church on Sunday morning, taken by the Methodist Minister, the Rev Dennis Smith.

The service replaced the usual United service held at the start of the annual Sutton Bonington show but as the show for 2021 was cancelled – for the second successive year- due to the Covid-9 situation the special service was agreed upon as a replacemen­t.

CRICKET. Sutton Bonington cricket cub finished third in their division in the Gunn and Moore South Notts cricket league, finishing with eight wins and four defeats, giving them 227 points, Division winners, local rivals Gotham, won ten of their games and lost three, ending with 243 points. Bonington, under the captaincy of Dave Appleby, are expected now to be promoted with four others to Division H next season in a shakeup in the League who will lose five of their top teams in Division A to help form a new Premiershi­p competitio­n featuring the Gunn and Moore competitio­n and the six division Bassetlaw League
