New season under way
Members of Sileby Photographic Society met for their first meeting of the new 2021-2022 season on Monday, 6th September and, despite Coronavirus restrictions having been lifted, it was felt appropriate that the first few meetings would continue to be held courtesy of Zoom.
In his opening address, John Hoogerwerf, President, was pleased to welcome two new members into the society who joined those present at the meeting to enjoy a pre-recorded DVD presentation produced by the Royal Photographic Society. This contained some of the best digital images entered by members of their Nature group in its 2021 Members’ Exhibition.
Superb natural history images were shown which covered many aspects contained within the subject of Nature. Flora, fauna, fungi, insects, birds, moths and butterflies, animals, large and small, and a representative selection of sea creatures were included, and demonstrated near perfection of the photographers’ skills when capturing such images on camera.
Sileby Photographic Society was well represented in the Exhibition, with Pete Smith, CPAGB, having had three entries accepted, an honour in itself, but it was Gianpiero Ferrari, FRPS, DPAGB, FBPE, AFIAP, who stole the show with a record ten acceptances across the board. This was an incredible achievement with each image demonstrating Gianpiero’s high standards in his chosen field of nature photography. His stunning image, ‘Green Veined White Butterfly’ was highly commended and deservedly so.
This had been a superb evening of photography, with some of the best photographers displaying great examples of their work, and had provided an excellent start to Sileby’s new programme of events throughout the coming year.
The next Zoom meeting will be held on Monday, 20th September when guest photographer, Peter Milsom, EFIAP/Gold, DPAGB, BPE4* will present digital images under the title ‘ The Power of Sport’.
Anyone wishing to become a member of Sileby Photographic Society should visit the contact page on the SPS website, https://silebyps. org.uk/ when further details will be issued. The programme for the current photographic year is also available to view. It is hoped that face-to-face meetings will re-commence at the Sileby Community Centre towards the end of October.
