Phil aims to raise a £1 for every mile

-

A Loughborough physiotherapist, who has saddled up for a 732km bike ride, aims to raise £1 for each kilometre for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

Philip Yorkstone, who works at Rainbows, started his challenge from the Loughborough-based hospice. Over six days, he visited six other children’s hospices to show his support.

Philip said: “The past 18 months have been really tough for us all. For the families that access a children’s hospice - every day, month and year can be tough. Working at Rainbows I get to meet amazing children and young people and am passionate about the work we do. So as always, I wanted to support our work again this year.

“However, this time I also want to promote other children’s hospices across the country. Each and every one of these hospices are committed to ensuring the best possible quality of care, and therefore the best quality of life, to those who need their services.”

Rainbows is the only hospice to care for children and young people from the East Midlands with life-limiting illnesses. Philip – was joined by his friend, Kevin Harvey, who is a Physiotherapist at Acorns Hospice - will also visit Bluebell Wood, in Sheffield, Martin House, in Wetherby, Claire House, in Wirrell, Hope House, in Oswestry and Acorns, in Worcester.

Gary Farnfield, Rainbows Community Fundraiser, said: “It is always great when a colleague takes on a challenge to raise money for Rainbows and we are all grateful to Philip for taking on this ride. It is also really nice to be able to show our appreciation of other children’s hospices and to highlight the vital work we all do. We hope people will take a look at his fundraising page and support his efforts.”
