Charnwood Forest team set for Spain adventure!

-

A TEAM of golfers from Charnwood Forest Golf Club is off to Spain after reaching the semi finals of a national competition.

The quarter finals of the Annodata Competition, a national knock out tournament with five singles handicap matches per round saw the Charnwood Forest team of Julia Booth, Annette O’Meara, Pauline Milner, Helen Sherratt and Chloe Edmonds travel to face Woodhall Spa.

Charnwood’s Ladies Captain Jane Bevan said: “It was a grey, dull Wednesday with drizzle in the air but nothing could dampen the spirits of the ladies’ Annodata team, their caddies and supporters - we were there for the quarter finals. A practice round and overnight stay was necessary for the 9.30am start which was slightly delayed because of all the photos being taken by the sponsors.

“All but one of the team of Julia Booth, Annette O’Meara, Pauline Milner, Helen Sherratt and Chloe Edmonds were receiving shots from their low handicapped opposition but nevertheless, to play away from home is always challenging, even with shots.

“On the front 9 the matches were mixed – up in some, down in some but as the back 9 progressed so did the nail biting. The long, flat course, with its very long carries and some “challenging” bunkers was always going to be testing for our players but after four matches had finished, it was all square…. over to our youngest player Chloe Edmonds, who’d travelled up from University the evening before.

“Chloe was two down after the 15th hole but after some superb golf, it was all square after 18 – onto the 19th and sudden death! The crowd was now about 35-40 strong (26 from Charnwood!) and all were holding their breath.

“On the 20th their player found some difficulties but Chloe, unperturbed, drove straight down the middle followed by an iron shot towards the green, again placed beautifully centrally. It was all but over.

“Within a few more minutes, the opposition had conceded and yes….we’d won! Next stop the Montecastillo Golf Resort near Cadia in March 2022!”
