Table topping Warriors issue plea for sponsors

- By PETE WARRINGTON

CHARNWOOD Warriors have issued an appeal for new sponsors as they prepare to resume their National Premier League campaign this weekend.

The Loughborough based club was promoted from Division Three in March 2020 just before the pandemic started and have made a fantastic start to their first season in Division Two winning seven and drawing one of their nine matches so far to top the table at the halfway point, one point ahead of Leeds Athletic.

They will get the second half of the season underway on Sunday

(January 9) when they travel to Norwich to face the Thoroughbreds.

Head coach Sam Griffin said she was delighted with the progress so far: “The squad is extremely happy with our first season in Premier League Two with our target of staying up in this division for the 2022 season already met. We now look forward to continuing to challenge the top spot.”

But she revealed that off the court, rising costs involved with travelling to away matches across the country have seen the club struggling to cope.

“The recent increases in the costs in petrol have really put a dent in finances, along with the increase in venue costs. With the club playing at a national level we have away matches up and down the country such as Kent, Hartlepool and Leeds. The costs of petrol and overnight accommodation quickly add up, especially when many members of the team are students.

“We have some sponsorship for which we are extremely grateful but would certainly welcome the support of more local businesses.

“The team is doing really well on court and knowing that the club’s off-court finances are resolved means players can concentrate their focus on playing netball and not having to worry about how they fund their netball or fund-raising ideas to raise cash for the club.”
