Set for first event of 2022

-

PRESIDENT, Sue Wainwright, welcomed everyone to the December meeting of the

Thorpe Acre WI that was held at the Thorpe Acre Church Hall on Tuesday, December 14. She extended a warm welcome to two visitors, Karen and Rose and to Sarah Purdie, a recent ‘zoom’ speaker, who had come to sell her range bespoke beauty products.

At the end of October thirteen members arrived for coffee at either Chez Sue’s or Esquires. January’s coffee morning will be either at Baxter’s or at Chez Sue’s. Our Christmas tree, beautifully decorated by Carole, is now firmly ensconced in the

Parish Church. As viewing times are limited this year Rachel took a photograph and kindly forwarded it on to members. Next stop – Christmas Lunch at Longcliffe Golf Club!

Things on the New Year’s ‘to do’ list were outlined. Resolution voting slips have to be given to Linda at January’s meeting. Francesca, our new Culture Club secretary, would welcome any ideas for outings. Sue Y. confirmed that the monthly competition will recommence in January. Perhaps most importantly, and with all things crossed, hot refreshments may be available. Watch this kettle!

With business finished it was time to revisit an almost forgotten event…….. Party Time! There was a fine selection of nibbles including Stollen, mince pies and Sue

W’s delicious shortbread. This was accompanied by Sue Y’s very refreshing punch. There was a lot of interest in Sarah’s products and many left the hall with little black bags.

To finish the evening Sue W. handed out ‘do it yourself’ Christmas Decoration packs, consisting of a length of ribbon and two small bells. Under Sue’s expert tutelage, and with a lot of merriment, the ribbon was transformed into a multi-looped bow accompanied by, what many described as, four ‘dangly bits’. Bells were attached to two of these whilst the other two were curled with the judicious use of scissors. Thus, with cries of Merry Christmas ringing in their ears, everyone went home with a very ‘personalized’ decoration and, hopefully’ a happy heart.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 11, at 7.30pm in the Thorpe Acre Church Hall. Deborah Moxom will be telling us about the Alexandra Bedspread. So, if it’s cold outside why not drop in for a warm welcome, a warm cuppa (hopefully) and the chance to wrap yourself up in a warm piece of local history. Lastly, all of us at Thorpe Acre WI would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year.
