Owner in plea to help Paddington walk again

-

THE owner of a chow-chow called Paddington is asking for help to get her pet walking again.

The two-year-old is suffering with dysplasia and arthritis in his legs and has been having monthly injections to try to manage the pain he is in.

But in the past week, owner Nancy Haywood said Paddington’s condition has worsened and he was unable to even go out for a walk.

Nancy, who lives in Loughborough, said Paddington was her best friend and she would do anything to make him feel better.

She said: “Paddington had to be taken to the vets as he was struggling to even walk, which the vets believe is due to both his worsening condition and a nasty fall he had which resulted in him landing on both front legs.

“Because of this, he is being referred to a specialist for an MRI scan and operation on both front legs.

“The bill for this operation will be £3,000.

“Due to Paddington’s pre-existing conditions and his last year of insurance coming to an end, no insurance companies will touch him, leaving us with a huge bill for an operation which is essential for Paddington’s quality of life.”

Her fund-raising page had raised more than £750 within 21 hours of it going live.

As of Monday evening, the total stood at £1,380.

One woman from the US was among those donating to Nancy. She said: “I donated because I love my chow, Buddha.

“He has changed my life. If we all contribute a little we can help each other immensely.”

Other dog-lovers from around the world have been donating sums ranging from £5 to £100.

Nancy thanked the people who have donated so far and expressed how much Paddington meant to her.

She said: “He is such a huge part of my life and my best friend. He means the world to me.

“We have been through so much together and I can’t bear to have him in pain.

“I will do everything I can for this dog. I absolutely adore him.”
