How charity stepped up to provide Christmas cracker of a kids party!

-

A SHEPSHED charity for children pulled out all the stops to provide a festive treat for the youngsters who use the service.

Steps has had a tough 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic and has had problems raising funds at times.

A spokesperson said: “There is no doubt that this has been another tough year for charities and Steps was determined to pull out all the stops to provide a special Christmas event for the children who access their service, plus their families.

“The covered, outside play area was transformed by the staff into a Winter Wonderland to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children and their families to enjoy.

“Food and drinks were provided by the amazing charity, Rapid Relief, under the guidance of team leader, Mervyn Burke.

“The highlight of the event was undoubtably the arrival of Santa amid much ‘Ho Ho Ho-ing’.

“Each child who attends Steps was given a gift and there was one for their siblings as well.”

Janet Russell, a manager at Steps, said: “We wanted to revive our tradition of providing a party for our children and to give parents the opportunity to meet and talk with others, to share experiences and news.

“Since all our major fundraising events had been cancelled during the preceding two years, we weren’t sure that we would be able to fund this event.

“We are, therefore, very grateful to Persimmon Homes who donated £1,000 to cover the costs of the parties and the presents.

“We are also grateful to the Rapid Relief Team who gave up their time to provide the catering, ensuring everyone had a cooked snack and a hot drink, not to mention a cheery smile! “The looks on the faces of the children made all of the effort so worthwhile.” Steps is a charity based in the town that provides a free service to families who have a child with conditions that may affect their movement.
