Penalty earns Shepshed a share of the spoils

SHEPSHED Dynamo’s first home game of the year ended in a draw with their first point and goal in four games.

A final score of 1-1 against Daventry Town in the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midlands Division at The Dovecote Stadium.

Daventry Town took the lead on 24 minutes through Taylor Orosz and Matt Melbourne gained Shepshed a point with a 49th minute penalty.

Reece Morris and Melbourne combined well a minute later but Daventry diverted the ball away from Jack Rogers.

Orosz gave the visitors the lead on 27 minutes he latched onto a ball over the top one on one with Matty White he slotted home.

Tom Lorraine had the chance to double the lead six minutes later firing into White.

Towards the end of the half of the half Toby Ritzema headed wide from a corner and Martin advanced on Melbourne in injury time.

Shepshed equalised four minutes into the second half Melbourne was brought down just inside the area and converted the resultant penalty.

On 74 minutes Shepshed had their best chance to secure all three points. Harper’s ball over the top found Melbourne one on one with Martin who stifled Dynamo’s effort.

A minute later Arlott-John put Morris through with a possible cross field ball option he went for goal but wide.

Daventry looked settled for a point but Jack Bowen forced a save from White on 78 minutes.

Neither side gave a quarter at the end of the game and a draw was a fair result.

Shepshed remain 14th and are at home again next Saturday with Cambridge City the visitors.

IN the Premier League, Blaby & Whetstone, who were held to a 1-1 draw away to Hathern in a see-saw game. Jake Smith gave the visitors the lead midway through the second half, but Hathern’s pressure eventually yielded an equaliser seven minutes from time when Dan Hutton smashed home a rebound from the keeper’s parry.

At the bottom of the table, Fleckney Athletic remain two points down, after losing 3-0 at home to Sileby Town thanks to goals from Laithan Hammond, Grant Ryder and Aaron Tarpey.

In mid-table, Friar Lane & Epworth brought ProChance Football Academy down to earth with a bump, and a warm welcome in the realities of non-league football in Leicesters­hire, as FLAE won 2-1 at the Spice Bazaar, Stefan Stapleton and Curtis Wheat scoring for the hosts, Schilo Kanda for ProChance.

In Everards Brewery Division One, there’s new leaders, after Asfordby defeated Ingles Reserves 3-2 at Asfordby Acres. Andy Melville, Charlie Richards and Lewis Sharpe scored for Asfordby, Luke Green and Callum Hardy for Ingles.

Holwell Sports Reserves won 2-0 at home to Barrow Town Reserves thanks to a goal either side of the break from Tom Bendle and Brooke Isherwood.

At the bottom, Loughborou­gh still occupy the relegation spot after a 5-0 drubbing at home to Sporting Markfield, Guy Weston leading the way with a hat-trick for the visitors, and Karl King and Jamie Wood joining in off the bench. Elsewhere Earl Shilton Albion won 4-1 away to Birstall United Reserves.

In Division Two, Sutton Bonington drew 2-2 at home to St Andrews Reserves. They had to come from behind twice just to get a share of the points, after Colby White gave the Saints the lead, with Jordan Crosland and Callum Halford-Harding providing the Sutton goals.

Zak Ginvert showed that his scoring boots are still in good working order, with another first-half hat-trick, as Rothley Imperial won 3-0 away at Desford Reserves.
