BELLA Ramsey leads Leicestershire’s nominations at this year’s Bafta TV

Awards.

The drama which portrayed the deadly deeds of a Market Harborough killer is also up for a number of honours.

Bella, who was trained at Loughborough’s Stagecoach Theatre, is up for the leading actress award for the part of Ellie in hit drama The Last of Us.

It is the first Bafta nomination for the 20-year-old star who faces strong competition from the likes of Helena Bonham Carter and Sarah Lancashire to bag the top prize.

The apocalyptic thriller, made by HBO and which aired on Sky Atlantic, propelled Bella to worldwide fame and became one of Sky’s biggest ever shows.

Their nomination is one of four awards The Last of Us has been shortlisted for ahead of the ceremony in May.

Bella’s co-star Nico Parker is up for the best supporting actress Bafta for her portrayal of Sarah in The Last of Us.

The drama itself, which will return for a second season, is also up for the best international drama award, while the story of Bill and Frank – one of the show’s standout segments – is shortlisted for the memorable moment award.

That is the only award voted for by the public.

The nominations also widely honour The Sixth Commandment, the BBC drama which chronicled the story of Market Harborough killer Benjamin Field.

The three-part series followed the true story of Field who murdered a university lecturer after subjecting him to a campaign of physical and mental torture in a bid to inherit his house.

It is up for best limited drama, while its actors Éanna Hardwick, Anne Reid and Timothy Spall are also nominated for honours.

Sara Putt, chairman of Bafta, said: “Water-cooler TV moments, brave documentaries which expand our worldview, and powerful real-life inspired dramas – these are just some of the Bafta-nominated TV programmes for audiences to watch.

“The exceptional variety and quality of programmes nominated reflects the creative powerhouse that is the UK television industry, and it is an honour for Bafta voters to watch and debate such brilliant TV.

“Congratulations to everyone nominated.”

The Bafta TV awards with P&O Cruises will take place on Sunday, May 12. The ceremony will be hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan and will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
