Master builder! JOE, 13, WINS A COVETED NATIONAL TITLE WITH HIS IMAGINATIVE LEGO CREATIONS
AN ENVIABLE eye for detail and a vivid imagination have helped earn Joe Nemeth-Ward a coveted title.
The Loughborough teenager has been named Britain’s best young Lego builder.
Joe, 13, beat hundreds of other competitors to the title by negotiating a series of building challenges.
Lego’s Mini Master Model Builder competition is aimed at youngsters who can create little brick masterpieces without an instruction booklet.
Contests were held at the Legoland Discovery Centres in Birmingham and Manchester to find two regional winners.
Joe won his regional heat and went on to the grand final, where a major last challenge awaited.
His show-stopping build will go on show at Miniland in the Birmingham Lego Discovery Centre.
The youngster created three intricate scenes depicting mythical beasts taking over Miniland.
He said: “I was fascinated by mythology and legends when I was smaller – in fact, I still am – so I wanted to incorporate this into the build. I also knew the bull was a symbol of Birmingham so wanted to include this somehow.”
The design includes the Minotaur chasing someone up the side of a building, a kraken taking over the canal and a Tolkein-inspired dragon taking up home in Digbeth.
In addition to having his creation on display in Miniland, Joe has won four annual passes for the Lego Discovery Centre and a £500 shopping
spree at the centre’s store.
The youngster has his eye on a Star Wars-themed Lego set or two, having built a Star Wars ship made entirely out of second-hand Lego parts back in the day.
Joe said: “I’m over the moon to be named the UK’s Mini Master Model Builder! I was very shocked when I found out.
“I was about five years old when I first started playing with Lego, and I’ve always loved that you can use your imagination to build crazy things.
“I’m really pleased to have been chosen and I’m excited that so many people will see my creation displayed in Miniland.”
Amy Langham, general manager at Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham, said: “We’re thrilled to announce that Joe is the UK’s new Mini Master Model Builder.
“We saw so many talented Lego builders come through our doors and enter the competition, but the passion and detail in Joe’s work really shone throughout the competition.
“We can’t wait to see his next wonderful creation and have his build on display in our Miniland this year.”
