Choir in popular return to open air theatre
A CHOIR will perform hits from the musicals at an impressive open air theatre.
The Tideswell Male Voice Choir went down so well after appearing at Gawsworth Hall’s Open Air Theatre last year that organisers quickly invited them back for another show. The choir, started in the Peak District village of Tideswell in the early 50s with members from Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Greater Manchester, will perform an evening of songs from the musicals.
Dennis Kay, director of music for the choir, said members are looking forward to returning to the theatre, which is set in a covered grandstand in the pretty Tudor hall’s rose garden.
He said: “Being asked to appear again in the Garden Theatre with its beautiful backdrop of the Tudor courtyard is a huge honour.
“Last year was a great experience, performing in front of an audience of around 800 people and we’re very excited to be
there once performing more.
“Christopher Ellis the choir’s principal accompanist will again demonstrate his outstanding dexterity on the piano and keyboard, with our newly appointed drummer Derrick McGill adding his skills to bring a new dimension to the performance.”
To meet demand the choir will again perform its rendition of songs from Les Miserables. The medley of songs will also feature a number of young soloists.
Mr Kay said: “It’s worth making an afternoon of it, to visit the hall and gardens and bring a picnic tea to enjoy before the evening performance.
“This will be a very special evening in the company of this renowned choir, talented soloists and musicians.”
The concert ‘Sounds Sensational’ is on Sunday, August 10, at 6.30pm. Visit tideswellmvc. o.uk/events or call 01538 266358 or 07973 864520 for tickets.
