Jim’s set to play gig
I AM still very downcast at the demise of the Cabin but I am not about to spend months whingeing about it, nor am I about to revert to travelling hundreds of miles a year trying to find decent music to watch.
What I am going to do is work with Kiva and try to help it achieve its potential as a live venue.
I believe it has potential and the work already done has got it moving in the right direction.
Last week the Hot Bananas put in a rare shift there, their first show in a couple of years.
I was unable to attend but I hope they got the audience they certainly deserve.
Before the Cabin closed I was putting Bluefunk promotions in there fairly regularly, one of which was a monthly appearance from Jim Kirkpatrick and his superb band Heavy Weather.
Jim is a Cheshire lad who has been playing regularly in this area since he was about 15 years old.
He has been a friend of mine now for the last 10 years. In that period I have watched him grow exponentially as a guitarist to where he is now, a world class player touring the globe with Heavy Weather, FM, Bernie Marsden (of Whitesnake), Chris Cook (from USA) and Thea Gilmore.
I have seen him play with all of the above and many others. As it stands, his star is still ascending and has recently been involved in the debut release from a band called Diesel. More on them at a later date.
Jim’s monthly gigs for Bluefunk have all been fantastic and were drawing his fans from all over the country. I am not about to lose them, so his next one will be at Kiva on August 7 and will be an extremely rare appearance of the Heavy Weather Big Blues Band with Gunner Gunstone on keyboards and a starstudded brass section.
