Top ranking for ethical pet food exporter
AMACCLESFIELD pet food manufacturer has been ranked as one of Britain’s top exporters.
MPM Products Limited, based on Hulley Road, Macclesfield, has been ranked 19 in the latest Sunday Times International Fast Track 200.
According to the league table, which ranks Britain’s private companies with the fastest-growing overseas sales, the business is the fourth fastest growing exporter in the North West.
MPM Products – best known for its Applaws and Encore brands – has increased international sales six-fold over the last four years, from £2.4m in 2010 to £14.2m in 2013. Exports now represent over half of the company’s £25m annual turnover.
Founded in 2003 by Jon Kinsey, Roger Wood and Roger Coleman, it currently exports to 46 countries worldwide through a network of international offices, distributors and retailers.
The company says its approach, based on developing long-term strategic partnerships with key international distributors, had been critical to its success. It now plans to expand its reach by targeting new markets in South Africa, Russia, South America and China.
Julian Bambridge, managing director of MPM, said: “The growth of our Applaws and Encore brands in international markets shows that great product can transcend cultural and geographic boundaries. We’ve seen a global shift in consumer attitudes towards their pets, with more and more owners seeking responsible sourcing and quality food.”
MPM Products, which recently celebrated selling one million cans, specialises in natural, ethically sourced, premium pet food.
Last year the business also extended its presence in the pet care sector with the launch of Nature’s Calling, an economic and environmentally-friendly cat litter made from the reclaimed lining of walnut shells.
