Life is sweet for sisters as tearoom bags service award
LIFE is sweet for the staff at Prestbury’s Chocolate Box after it scooped an award for its service.
The tearoom, which launched in October 2011, has received a certificate of excellence from travel review website Trip Advisor after clocking up dozens of five star reviews from its customers.
Chocolate Box was launched by sisters and single mums Kate Nuttall and Angela O’Leary after they decided to pursue their dream of owning their own business.
Specialising in afternoon teas and Champagne breakfasts, the eatery also offers homemade cakes, soups, quiche and specials that are all made daily.
Kate said: “Angela is the chef, I run the front of house and our mum Lynn does all the interior decorations and flowers for the tearoom.
“To receive the award was amazing, as its all come about from the feedback we get from our customers. You have to get a certain amount of people reviewing your business before you can get the accolade and we did so.
“Running the business has not been easy, as the footfall in the village is dropping and the economic climate is tough. But I am proud that we are still here and trading.”
The tearoom, which is based in The Village, has 44 five star reviews on Trip Advisor.
On its page, Rhianna V said: “To be honest I have never had a better afternoon tea and I have had a fair few!” And Magpie Mcgee said: “We pop into this charming tea shop regularly for a coffee and cake, it is a real asset to the village. The proprietors could not be more welcoming.”
But Kate has urged the residents in Prestbury to back its businesses to make sure that they stay afloat.
She added: “Myself and Angela’s children grew up so we decided to go for it and start the business. Now I would urge the residents of the village to come and support the businesses in it, not just ours. We all need the residents backing. We get about 70 per cent of our custom from outside the village and 30 from within it, I would love to see more people from the local area coming in.
“It has been difficult but I have had some great experiences since we started the company and seeing it grow has been amazing.”
